NARI Certfied |
 |
STONEYBROOK BUILDERS is pleased to announce that we have received the designation of NARI® Certified Remodeler effective February, 2004!
This Q&A explains how we have accomplished this certification and what it means to you:
How does a professional remodeling contractor become Certified?
A professional remodeling contractor has to have been in business for a specified number of years (minimum of five (5) years) in order to be Certified by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry® (NARI®). In addition, the contractor must be associated with an established business which operates in compliance with the Code of Ethics (reprinted in this brochure) adopted by NARI® and the Association's Certification Board.
To gain the coveted CR designation a contractor must follow this process:
1. Must submit an application and commit to pay all the fees associated with the program. 2. Prepare and document an extensive Qualification Matrix which details his/her background record regarding their basic training, technical skills, business management, on-going education as well as association and community service 3. In most cases, the candidate has joined a local study group and spent eight to twelve weeks preparing for the following written examination according to a prescribed method of study prepared by the University of Illinois 4. Take a full day written examination administered by NARI® covering 18 different subject areas including: business management, building codes and construction law, safety, plans and specification as well as twelve technical skills areas 5. A five person Certification Board panel reviews the complete record/file of each candidate consisting of their Qualification Matrix and written examination results and decides on the appropriateness of granting the CR designation to each individual based on past standards of performance, integrity and knowledge.
What does Certification mean to the homeowner?
A professional remodeling contractor Certified by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry® has a track record of ethical standards in business. NARI® Certification is also evidence that the contractor is a professional and is competent in the performance of remodeling projects.
The homeowner, when dealing with a NARI® Certified remodeling contractor, is assured that the contractor is: * Pledging to observe the high standards of honesty, integrity, and responsibility in the conduct of business; * Making all advertising and sales promotion factually accurate; * Writing all contracts and warranties so that they are fair and mutually beneficial; * Promoting only those products and services which are functionally and economically sound; *Honoring all contractual obligations until and unless they are altered or dissolved by the mutual consent of both parties. Who can use the Certification designation?
A NARI® Certified remodeling contractor is a member of an elite group--the top professional of the remodeling industry. There are more than 600 of these top professionals in the United States today. Homeowners should note that NARI® Certification applies only to individuals, and not to businesses or companies or multiple members of such businesses. Only the individual named on the NARI® Certification certificate has met the requirements necessary for this distinction.
Remember: Competence, professionalism and high ethical standards-the NARI® Certified Remodeler. |

National Association of the Remodeling Industry® Code of Ethics |
 |
Each member of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry® is pledged to observe high standards of honesty, integrity, and responsibility in the conduct of business:
1. By promoting only those products and services that are functionally and economically sound, and which are consistent with objective standards of health and safety; 2. By making all advertising and sales promotion factually accurate with respect to product description, performance specification, and cost/benefit analysis, and by avoiding those practices which tend to mislead or deceive the customer with respect to competitive pricing, savings claims, or the nature and significance of contracts, warranties, finance agreements, completion certificates, lien waivers, or liability and worker's compensation insurance; 3. By writing all contracts and warranties such that they are fair and mutually beneficial to all parties concerned, such that they are free of ambiguities or omissions which tend to obscure contractual obligations, and such that warranty terms and provisions are free of the capacity to mislead or deceive the customer as to quality or longevity of the product or service; 4. By honoring all contractual obligations until and unless they are altered or dissolved by the mutual consent of all contractual parties concerned, and by fulfilling those obligation in a reasonably prompt manner that is fair to all parties concerned; 5. By promptly acknowledging and acting on all customer complaints, and, in situations where complaints appear unreasonable and persistent, by encouraging the customer to initiate an approved third party dispute settlement mechanism; and 6. By restraining from any act intended to restrain trade or suppress competition, and to thereby promote the private enterprise system and its guaranty of equal rights for all. The certification of a remodeling contractor under the certification program of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry® is the Association's recognition that the contractor has met certain criteria for experience, commitment to the standards of practice and Code of Ethics of NARI®, and professionalism. This certification is intended to assist building owners in the selection of a contractor. It is expressly not intedend in any way or manner as a guarantee of the contractor's workmanship, integrity, or of the materials and equipment used. Remodeling contractors are independent legal entities and are not agents, representatives or employees of NARI®. As an independent contractor, the contractor the customer selects, and not NARI®, is solely responsible for the quality of his or her work and materials furnished and the conduct and performance of his or her employees.
